I, Lexi Harper, college graduate with a bachelor’s degree in Network Cyber Security, used to have a sound mind, until I returned to my hometown of Fodders Creek and attended the Malloy’s cookout. Eagerly looking forward to greet as an adult, Brad Malloy—the man of my daydreams…which still persist to this day—I hadn’t counted on his younger brother, Sammy, my childhood partner in crime, to have transformed into a super hero hunk capable of attracting my signal.
Did I waste all those years Brad-worshiping when I should’ve noticed my best friend? I realized the answer the moment I discovered the truth about daydreams.

“Oh, Lexi…you’re my world, my love, my life,” Brad said, his lips on my neck nuzzling a path to my ear.
Goosebumps raced down my body in search of my toes. I’d waited a decade to hear Brad Malloy profess his love and hardly believed his acknowledgement was finally happening.
Firm lips heated a trail along my jaw, and my heart beat faster the nearer his lips moved toward my mouth. The kiss I’d longed for…hoped for…ached for. His mouth inched closer…closer…
“Lexi?”
No! I groaned as Brad and his full, tender lips faded away, replaced by my assistant’s wrinkled forehead.
“Lexi. You’re wanted on line one.”

Show of hands—who’s had a case of unrequited puppy love, only to see the same person through adult eyes…and found the view completely different? This short (7 pages of actual text) story captures that reality beautifully in a tender, funny, first person narrative of a young woman coming home—and coming to her senses as she sees Brad, the older brother crush, contrasted with Sammy, her best friend who grew up while she was away. I sighed, I smiled, and I felt the sweetness and surprise of discovering something wonderful where you didn’t expect it.

I really enjoyed this short story and found myself rooting for Lexi from the very beginning. I was hoping things turned out how she had hoped they would. The characters were very appealing and I couldn’t read the story fast enough to see the final outcome for Lexi. I would definitely recommend this story to everyone.

While the story is a very short one, it has all the things that make a longer story work. It doesn’t feel choppy and flows really well. While there aren’t many pages, there’s a great message about fantasies versus reality. I enjoyed this heart-warming reminder of what is really important in life. The Truth About Daydreams is a wonderful breath of fresh air for your day.

This was very short, only seven pages of actual story content. But it was very well done. I didn’t find it too rushed, like many short short stories can be. Lexi’s voice came through loud and clear, with a casual, chick-litish feel to it. Humorous, sexy, yet remaining sweet in content, it was a fun read. I recommend it to women of any age.

I loved this story. There is much realism behind the words, where many can relate to having a crush on someone that often is only a crush and nothing more. Sometimes what we really want is standing so close it takes time to actually realize the truth. Donna Michaels pens a read that I thoroughly enjoyed. She even makes the barbecue and all the aroma of the food cooking come alive, and allows the reader to share in the festivities. I love how she incorporates Lexi's voice throughout. The message rings loud and true, and I would love to see an addition to Sammy's story. I found The Truth about Daydreams a gratifying read.

Donna Michaels crafts a story that may be as familiar as real life to many of us. She makes it's easy to remember those past loves that may have been high up on a pedestal at one time. Time and distance seems to change things for most of us. This is a sometimes funny look at how those childhood heroes can shrink down to human size. What a fantastic characterization of relationships, both real and imagined, and how they change over time. Except for mothers…that sixth sense of theirs never seems to change! The book will leave you with a smile on your face.
